Lenovo climbs to seventh in Gartner’s 2026 Supply Chain Top 25
Lenovo credits its AI-driven iChain system for faster decisions and near-real-time disruption response.Courtesy: LenovoLenovo's best-ever supply chain rankingLenovo has been ranked seventh in the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2026, its highest placement to date, the company announced July 8. Lenovo ranked eighth in 2025, 10th in 2024, and eighth in 2023.Now in its 22nd year, the Gartner ranking identifies and benchmarks excellence in global supply chain management.Lenovo attributes the improvement to its AI infrastructure, developed amid a year of disruption from tariffs, component shortages, and geopolitical tensions. The company evolved its Supply Chain Intelligence system into iChain, a continuously learning orchestration platform that coordinates thousands of suppliers and more than 30 manufacturing sites worldwide.Lenovo says iChain has delivered 60 percent faster decision-making and near real-time disruption response. The system also automates 90 percent of network simulations, cutting manual analysis time from two to three weeks down to two to three hours.By fully integrating AI into our operations, we've been able to meet our customer needs more quickly and respond to complex situations, said Che Min Tu, Lenovo's senior vice president and group operations officer. He added that the approach helped the company "deliver its strongest year" on record.Lenovo says the resilience is showing up in its business results. The company retained its number-one position in global PC market share, with its lead over the second-ranked competitor now the widest in 15 years.Integrating the Infrastructure Solutions Group's supply chain into Lenovo's broader network has also helped accelerate growth in its infrastructure business, supporting record operating profit and margins.Lenovo says its supply chain model is expanding beyond its high-volume PC business, where a single device can include an average of 2,500 components, to meet demand for AI infrastructure and enterprise solutions. The company is scaling AI server manufacturing, expanding liquid-cooled server capacity, and strengthening its manufacturing network to support that shift. The company's supply chain now spans more than 30 manufacturing sites across 10 markets in Asia Pacific, China, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, North America, and South America.Lenovo broke ground last year on a new manufacturing base in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Once operational, it will produce PCs, smartphones, and servers for the Middle East and Africa market, and will include a research and development center, talent programs, and a customer experience center.Lenovo's manufacturing site in Monterrey, Mexico, was recently named one of 12 new additions to the World Economic Forum's Global Lighthouse Network, a group of 201 manufacturers recognized for applying advanced technologies at scale. It is the second Lenovo facility to receive the distinction, after its Hefei, China site was recognized in January 2023.In September 2025, Lenovo announced a major investment and job expansion at its manufacturing and fulfillment campus in Whitsett, North Carolina. The three-building campus spans more than 800,000 square feet and employs about 1,100 people. The site supports server manufacturing, rack integration, and order fulfillment for US customers. What do you think?
