Google unveils Googlebook: Android-based laptop with built-in Gemini AI

Google announces 'Googlebook' laptops running Android-based OS with Gemini integration.Googlebook's designGoogle's answer to Apple's MacBook Neo?Google has announced a new line of laptops called the Googlebook, marking a significant shift from the Chromebook platform it introduced fifteen years ago. The devices will run an Android-based operating system with deep integration of the company's Gemini AI.The new OS combines the Chrome browser with Android app support. A central feature, called Magic Pointer, was developed in partnership with DeepMind. When a user moves the cursor rapidly, Gemini surfaces contextual options based on the content currently displayed on screen. The user interfacePointing at a date in an email, for instance, can prompt the creation of a calendar event, while selecting two images presents an option to merge them. The operating system also includes a prompt-based widget tool. Users can type a request, and Gemini will pull relevant information from connected Google apps or the web to generate a temporary, custom widget. The company cited travel planning as one use case, with the system able to consolidate flight and hotel information into a single on-screen view.Given its Android foundation, the OS is built to integrate closely with Android smartphones. Users can mirror phone apps directly on the laptop display, and a Quick Access feature allows browsing of phone files through the laptop's file manager without requiring a cloud transfer.Google has confirmed hardware partnerships with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The laptops are expected to use premium materials and will include a physical glowbar to visually distinguish them from Chromebook models. Pricing and a release date have not been announced, though Google indicated further details would follow later this year. What do you guys think?Source: Google
