Telco giant Globe is seeking stronger cooperation with local government units and law authorities as cable theft continues, blamed for connectivity disruption in South Luzon.Image from GlobeCable theft on the riseIn a statement, the company said it had recorded 216 incidents from 2025 to April of this year.These included the theft of power cables, batteries, telecommunications equipment, generator fuel, grounding systems, generators, and circuit breakers in Laguna, Cavite, Oriental Mindoro, and Albay.The Laguna province logged the highest number of incidents, with 67 cases, followed by Cavite with 46 and Oriental Mindoro with 20.While stealing network assets is considered quick profit for criminals, it has a massive impact on the community, with homes losing internet access, businesses suffering from operational disruptions, and government agencies facing communication issues.Students are also affected, with more schools now embracing online learning services.These are not simple cases of property loss.
