Samsung’s tri-fold is dead, just 3 months after release
It seems like Samsung is facing some serious challenges with its new trifold.Samsung Galaxy Z Tri-FoldNo more Samsung tri-foldsAccording to Bloomberg, Samsung will stop the sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold (KRW 3,590,400 or around PHP 144K) in Korea first, followed by the US market, until stocks clear out. This comes as a surprise, since we expected Samsung to be the brand that could finally push the category mainstream, drawing more competition and eventually driving prices down.Only 3,000 units sold at launch, turning it into a collector's item with resale prices soaring. However, a post on Naver claims Samsung is already developing a successor, slated for release in 2027. So, there is hope that the current Galaxy Z TriFold may not be the last Samsung tri-fold.Industry insiders said that the phone's high production cost probably made it difficult to keep selling in large numbers. In case you missed it, rising costs of key components like DRAM, NAND flash, and mobile processors have likely put additional pressure on Samsung's margins.Generally, it's a shame that things like this are happening. The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold shows strong potential, as it can expand from a 6.5-inch phone (cover screen) to a tablet-sized device with a 10-inch display.See this link for the full specs of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. So far, the only other contender is HUAWEI, the pioneer of tri-fold smartphones, now on its second generation.Other brands have showcased concept devices, but have yet to release their own tri-folds as consumer products.Source: Bloomberg
