TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G Review: All-rounder Mid-range Phone Below Php 20K

The CAMON series has always been TECNO’s answer to users who want better cameras without paying flagship prices. Each release puts more focus on photography, often pushing features that are not common in the midrange segment. Over time, the series built its identity around strong imaging, practical features, and aggressive pricing. With the latest release, TECNO takes that idea further with the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G. The phone positions itself as the most refined version of that formula. It brings a clearer focus on creator-level imaging with a 50MP Sony sensor and a dedicated 3x telephoto lens, a combination that rarely shows up in this price range. Beyond the camera, it adds a 1.5K AMOLED display with a high refresh rate, a large 6,500 mAh battery, and improved durability with IP69-level protection. It starts at Php 19,999 in the Philippines, with early pricing dipping to around Php 18,499. That puts it in a very competitive spot. The bigger question now is simple. Is the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G worth it at under Php 20,000?ProsVersatile camera system with 3x telephotoReliable daylight and decent low-light shotsLarge 6500mAh battery with strong enduranceSmooth 144Hz AMOLED display with sharp 1.5K resolutionConsCurved display may not suit everyoneUltra-wide camera needs an upgradeSpeaker output is just averageDesignThe first thing I noticed was the weight. It feels lighter than expected for a phone with a 6,500 mAh battery. At around 178 grams with a slim profile, it is easy to carry all day. The curved edges help a lot with handling. The phone sits comfortably in the hand and does not feel bulky during long use. I used it for extended shooting sessions and casual scrolling, and it stayed comfortable throughout. The back design also looks clean. It leans toward a flagship look without trying too hard, and I even had people ask what phone I was using. The port layout is practical. Power and volume buttons are on the right side, while a dedicated AI button sits on the left. The top includes an IR blaster and a microphone, while the bottom houses the USB-C port, speaker, and SIM tray. Durability is one of its strongest points. The device carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and even IP69K ratings, which means it is dust-tight and can handle splashes, full submersion, and high-pressure water jets. That gives you confidence when using it outdoors or in unpredictable weather. The matte finish on the back also helps with usability. It resists fingerprints well and keeps the phone looking clean even after long use, though it does feel a bit smooth in hand and could use a case for better grip.Display: Built for Everyday ViewingThe display is one of the easiest things to appreciate on this phone. You get a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, and it shows right away in daily use. I spent a lot of time watching Netflix and YouTube on this, and it holds up well for long sessions. The screen looks sharp, colors stay vibrant, and contrast is strong. It also supports HDR for YouTube, which adds more depth when watching higher-quality content. The experience feels immersive, especially when you are watching in full screen. However, the stereo speakers are just average which needs more tuning on high frequencies. The smoothness stands out. Scrolling, switching apps, and even simple gestures feel very fluid because of the high refresh rate. It makes the phone feel faster than it actually is. Brightness is also reliable outdoors. With peak brightness reaching up to around 3,200 nits, the display stays readable even under direct sunlight. The only downside for me is the curved panel. It adds to the premium look, but I still prefer a flat display for better control and fewer edge distractions.Performance: A Reliable All-RounderThe CAMON 50 Ultra 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip. It does not aim to compete with flagship processors, but it delivers a consistent experience where it matters. In daily use, everything feels smooth. Apps open quickly, multitasking stays responsive, and there are no noticeable slowdowns even after extended use. I used it for social media, uploads, light editing, and messaging, and it handled all of them without issues. This is the kind of phone that works well for everyday tasks without getting in your way. It feels balanced and dependable as a daily driver.Gaming is okay. I tried Genshin Impact, and it is playable at medium settings with stable performance. MLBB runs smoothly without issues, and most casual to competitive titles perform well. Heavier games still push the limits of the hardware, so you need to manage settings to keep things stable. What stands out more is consistency. The phone does not heat up aggressively, and performance stays steady during longer sessions. It may not be built for hardcore gaming, but as an all-rounder, it delivers a reliable experience across everyday use and light gaming.Aside from the chipset, TECNO also adds a dedicated gaming layer through its High Boost gaming overlay, which gives you more control while playing. You can switch between power modes like Performance, Balanced, and Power Saving depending on your needs, and monitor real-time CPU and GPU usage while in-game. There are also practical tools like screen recording, screenshots, and quick app access without leaving your game.  Features like touch optimization, network enhancement, and esports mode help improve responsiveness and connection stability, while bypass charging keeps the phone cooler during longer sessions by powering the system directly instead of charging the battery. These additions do not turn it into a full gaming phone, but they make the overall experience more stable and convenient, especially for longer play sessions. In benchmarks, the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G lands right where you would expect for a strong midrange device. My unit scored 978,955 on AnTuTu, with solid breakdowns across CPU, GPU, memory, and UX, which reflects its balanced performance in real use. Geekbench results also show a similar pattern, with a 954 single-core score and 2742 multi-core score, while GPU scores reached around 3000+ in both OpenCL and Vulkan tests. These numbers line up with other reports that place the device close to the 1 million AnTuTu range and around 1000 and 2900 in Geekbench, which confirms that it sits comfortably in the midrange segment. Overall, the scores do not aim to compete with flagship chips, but they reinforce what you get in actual use, which is stable, consistent performance for everyday tasks and manageable gaming.Camera: The Reason You Pick This PhoneThis is where the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G stands out the most. It comes with a triple rear camera system composed of a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, along with a 50MP front camera. The telephoto lens makes a big difference in real use. Most phones at this price rely on digital zoom, but this one gives you proper optical zoom, which changes how you approach shots. In daylight, the camera delivers sharp and detailed images. Colors stay balanced, and skin tones look natural. It does not push heavy processing, which helps photos look more realistic. You can rely on it to get usable shots without much effort. Zoom performance remains consistent within its range. Photos stay detailed and usable at 3x, and even when pushing further with digital zoom, results are still acceptable up to around 10x. This adds flexibility that most midrange phones do not offer. Sample Photo: 1x vs 2x vs 3x ZoomSample Photo: 2x vs 3x ZoomSample Photo: 1x vs 2x ZoomSample Photo: 1x vs 2x vs 3x ZoomSample Photo: 1x vs 2x vs 3x ZoomLow-light performance is also competitive. The camera retains a good amount of detail and manages noise well, although there are moments where it struggles in very dark scenes or mixed lighting. Still, the results hold up for its price, and it works well for night shots and casual photography.Low-light: 2x vs 3x ZoomLow-light: 1x vs 2x vs 3x ZoomSample Low-light PhotosThe 50MP front camera delivers sharp selfies with good detail and natural skin tones. It handles indoor lighting well, though highlights can get a bit strong in harsh daylight. Meanwhile. the 8MP ultra-wide camera is useful for group shots and landscapes, offering a wide 112° field of view, though detail drops compared to the main sensor and images can look softer in low light.Sample Selfie vs Selfie PortraitSample Ultra-wide ShotSample Ultra-wide ShotVideo recording supports up to 4K, with decent stabilization and consistent colors across lenses. It is not built as a dedicated video device, but it works well for everyday recording and content capture.Software: More Refined, More UsefulThe CAMON 50 Ultra runs on HiOS 16 based on Android 16, and it feels like a clear step forward for TECNO. The interface looks cleaner, animations feel smoother, and the overall experience does not feel as cluttered as previous versions. Navigation feels more polished, and even the home screen layout with AI Suggestions and widgets adds a bit of personality without getting in the way.AI plays a big role here, but it does not feel forced. The system includes tools for photo enhancement, text rewriting, translation, and quick assistant access, along with a deeper AI hub that brings everything together in one place. You get features like Ella Voice for commands, Ella Briefing for daily summaries, Smart Touch for on-screen text extraction, and tools like document summarization and scan-to-doc. These are not just hidden features. They are accessible and actually useful for everyday tasks like editing content, reading, or managing quick information. There is also a dedicated AI button on the side, which launches TECNO’s Ella assistant or any shortcut you assign. Ella works like a built-in companion that can respond through chat or voice, making it easier to access features without jumping between apps. You can remap the button depending on your workflow, which makes it more flexible than a fixed-function key. In my use, it worked best as a quick shortcut tool rather than something I relied on all the time, but it adds convenience when you need fast access to AI features.Battery: One of the Best in Its ClassThe battery is easily one of the strongest reasons to consider the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G. It packs a 6,500 mAh capacity, which is already above what most phones offer in this segment. Phones with this battery size are built for endurance, and it shows in real use.In daily use, this is the kind of phone that removes battery anxiety. I used it for a full day that included shooting photos, browsing, and long streaming sessions on YouTube and Netflix, and it still had battery left at night. On lighter days, it can easily stretch into the next day without needing a top-up. Screen-on time can reach around 6 to 8 hours or more depending on usage.Charging is rated at 45W. A full charge takes around an hour and a half, which is reasonable given the battery size. It is not the fastest charging speed in its class, but the trade-off makes sense because the battery lasts long enough that you do not need to charge it as often.VerdictAfter using the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G for a while, what stands out is balance. The camera encourages you to take more photos. The battery lets you stay out longer without worrying about charging. The display improves everyday use, whether you are scrolling or watching content. Performance stays consistent for most tasks, from casual use to light gaming. It does not try to dominate one area at the cost of others. Instead, it brings together features that make sense for daily use. That includes a capable camera system, a large battery, and a smooth display, all within a price that starts at Php 19,999.So is it worth it under Php 20,000?If you are looking for a well-rounded phone that prioritizes camera flexibility, battery life, and a reliable everyday experience, the answer is yes. It may not push flagship-level performance, but it delivers where most users actually need it.TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra Specs6.78-inch curved AMOLED1.5K resolution (1208 × 2644)144Hz refresh rateMediaTek Dimensity 7400 UltimateMali-G615 MC28GB / 12GB RAM256GB / 512GB storageExtended RAM support50MP Sony LYT-700C main (OIS)50MP 3x telephoto8MP ultra-wide50MP front4K video5G, 4G LTEWi-FiBluetooth 5.4NFCGPSDual SIMUSB-CIn-display fingerprintFace unlockAccelerometerGyroscopeProximityCompassStereo speakersDolby AtmosIR blasterAI buttonGorilla Glass protectionIP66 / IP68 / IP69 / IP69KAndroid 16HiOS 16162.37 × 76.97 × 7.75 mm at 178gMoonshadow BlackMisty PurpleNebula Titanium6500mAh battery45W fast chargingPhp 19,999.00 (8GB + 256GB)Php 18,499.00 promo price (April 1–17, 2026)Php 21,999.00 (12GB + 256GB)Php 20,499.00 promo pricePhp 25,999.00 (12GB + 512GB)

HONOR teases next-level AI phone in Miss Universe PH partnership

In the Philippines, beauty pageants aren’t just a casual television event; they are essentially a national sport. Entire households stop to watch the broadcast, and social media feeds are completely taken over by live, play-by-play commentary. So, if a technology brand wants to get an unprecedented amount of eyeballs on a new device, hitching its wagon to the pageant circuit is a remarkably shrewd move. That is exactly the strategy HONOR Philippines is deploying right now. The company has teased an upcoming partnership with Miss Universe Philippines 2026, setting the stage for a major smartphone reveal. While the initial press ...
