LG Electronics Philippines Employees Lead E-Waste Drive for Earth Day 2026

LG Electronics Philippines employees lead a hands-on e-waste collection and disposal drive in celebration of Earth Day 2026. Employee Action: LG staff spearhead a hands-on e-waste collection drive that gathered 1,200 kilograms of discarded electronics over three weeks. Responsible Disposal: All collected waste is processed through an accredited partner to ensure safe and environmentally sound handling. Global Alignment: The initiative reflects LG’s wider sustainability commitment, with strong recycling performance across its global operations. Earth Day often comes with campaigns and calls for awareness, but this year, LG Electronics Philippines made it tangible. Instead of just talking about sustainability, the company brought employees together for a hands-on initiative that directly addressed one of today’s growing environmental concerns: electronic waste. From March 31 to April 21, LG employees collected a total of 1,200 kilograms of e-waste. This included a wide range of discarded electronics such as old televisions, computers, mobile devices, batteries, and small appliances. These are items that many households and offices tend to stockpile or improperly dispose of, often without realizing their long-term environmental impact. From Collection to Proper Disposal What sets this initiative apart is not just the volume of waste collected, but how it was handled afterward. LG Electronics Philippines ensured that all collected materials were turned over to TRAME OIL, an accredited hazardous waste management facility. This step guarantees that the disposal process meets environmental standards and avoids the risks associated with improper dumping. Employee volunteers also took part in the physical destruction of e-waste at LG’s old warehouse in Pasig City. This added layer of involvement highlights the company’s effort to make sustainability a shared responsibility, rather than a top-down directive. Why E-Waste Matters More Than Ever E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally. As technology evolves rapidly, devices become obsolete quicker, leading to increasing volumes of discarded electronics. Without proper disposal, these items can release harmful substances that contaminate water, air, and soil. LG’s initiative brings attention to this issue while offering a practical solution. By collecting and processing e-waste responsibly, the company not only reduces environmental harm but also encourages more mindful consumption and disposal habits. Part of a Bigger Sustainability Vision While the Earth Day initiative is locally driven, it aligns with LG’s broader global sustainability direction. The company has consistently maintained a recycling rate above 95 percent across its operations, a notable benchmark in the industry. To date, LG has recorded cumulative e-waste collection of 5.01 million tons worldwide. Its recycling and collection services are available in 89 locations across 54 countries, including the Philippines, where such services have been active since August 2022. Building a Culture of Responsibility Beyond the numbers, the initiative reflects a deeper cultural shift within the organization. By involving employees directly, LG fosters a sense of ownership and accountability when it comes to environmental practices. Nakhyun Seong, Managing Director of LG Electronics Philippines, emphasized the importance of this collective effort, stating, “Earth Day is an important reminder that sustainability is built through everyday action. Through this e-waste collection initiative, we are encouraging employee participation in responsible disposal practices while supporting LG’s broader sustainability efforts. At LG, we believe innovation must come with responsibility, and what our employees have shown today is a true reflection of our commitment to a sustainable future.” A Community-Oriented Approach LG’s e-waste collection drive also underscores its role as a corporate citizen. By promoting responsible disposal and raising awareness, the company extends its impact beyond internal operations and into the wider community. Encouraging proper e-waste handling helps address a problem that affects everyone. It pushes the conversation forward and inspires others to rethink how they deal with outdated or broken electronics. Moving Forward After Earth Day While Earth Day serves as a focal point, LG’s efforts clearly go beyond a single date on the calendar. The company’s ongoing recycling programs and sustainability initiatives show a continued commitment to environmental stewardship. The 1,200 kilograms of e-waste collected is a strong start, but more importantly, it represents a mindset that values action over intention. It demonstrates how companies can mobilize their workforce to contribute meaningfully to environmental goals. As more organizations take similar steps, initiatives like this could become the norm rather than the exception. And that shift could make all the difference.
