HUAWEI nova 15 Max, First Look, Camera Samples, soon in PH!
Alongside the new WATCH FIT 5 Series, HUAWEI also launched the nova 15 Max globally in Bangkok, Thailand.Meet HUAWEI nova 15 MaxThis handset is said to be built for entertainment thanks to its massive 6.84-inch display with "stunning stereo speakers," while being durable SGS certified drop resistance. The HUAWEI nova 15 Max will be available in the Philippines soon.We had a chance to check it out ahead of launch, have a look.Meet HUAWEI nova 15 MaxDesign of the phoneThe new phone arrived in a high-end Mate-inspired design with a circular camera hump. The back panel is flat and available in Blush Gold, Golden Black, and Lake Cyan colors. The circular camera hump has a watch-like bezel finish, but it is thick for a phone without a complicated camera system.Top, bottomLeft, rightThe frame is also flat with nice, rounded corners and a fairly good overall feel when holding. It is just a little chunkier than expected, but it is forgivable since the battery is big at 8,500mAh. It could be charged via USB-C with a 40W power brick. All of the ports and buttons are found in familiar locations. It also has an X Button for shortcuts to utilities like Flashlight, Calculator, Camera, and many more.At right, you will find a side-mounted fingerprint reader on the right and the volume rocker. On top, it has the first speaker and the microphone hole. Below are the down-firing speaker, USB-C port, and SIM tray slot. The tray slot for the dual nano SIMs has a red rubber seal for some sort of water resistance. The displayIn front, the display is a 6.84-inch OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1.5K 2756 x 1272 resolution. This is a pretty sharp display and can go bright at 4,000 nits for outdoor use.First Camera SamplesGood for daylight shotsFor cameras, the device has a 50MP f/1.9 RYYB "Ultra-Clear" Camera. It has a secondary sensor with no mention of purpose. I suspect that it is for depth sensing, as this phone can deliver pretty good portrait shots with nice hair-level edge detection.Incredible edge detection even at 2x zoom featuring Colin of UngeekAnother thing that surprised us is its color accuracy. This phone did pretty well.Against the light indoorIndoor dim shotLiving up to HUAWEI's reputation, the nova 15 Max did well in the dark, too. In a dark restaurant light setting grain is minimal, and shadows are okay. The handset was able to retain the colors and dynamic range as well.Dim light shot with Alora of Revu, Colin of Ungeek, and Vikka of modern creaturesAnother low light snapNight shotSince it is nice for low light, its users will enjoy it for casual cityscape shows at night. Look at the dynamic range. The selfie shotThe selfie shot using its 8MP f/2.0 camera is decent and is actually crisp in details with nice colors and minimal beautification.HUAWEI nova 15 Max key specs, featuresSGS 5-star Extra Durable Body 6.84-inch OLED 2756 x 1272 120Hz 4,000 nits brightness8GB/256GB8,500mAh battery, 40W charging 50MP f/1.9 RYYB Ultra-Clear Camera8MP f/2.0 Stunning stereo speakersAI Smart ControlEMUI 14.2 AppGalleryQuick thoughtsThe new HUAWEI nova 15 Max might be a great phone for those in need of a large display with crisp resolution and loudspeakers. The primary cameras are also decent when needed, even if there's no OIS.We also don't know the exact processor of the phone yet, but thankfully, it is fast enough for the usual social media and camera usage. There is no info about its pricing yet.

That's it. There is no power brick included, as this is just a low-powered device that you can charge in any charger available in your home.Build Quality/DesignLook at the FIT 5 ProBasically, it is even more impressive and looks more sophisticated than my personal fitness watch that I purchased last year, the WATCH FIT 4 Pro.The most sophisticated FIT-branded HUAWEI watch yetIt arrived with the familiar squarish form factor and still has a titanium alloy bezel. The frame is 7 Series aluminum.Mic and speakersBut, HUAWEI said that it has 15% better scratch resistance, surface hardness, and double the wear resistance, solidifying the company's claim that durability is one of their major priorities for this watch. Moreover, it has 5 ATM water resistance with a 40-meter freediving certification.Strap and buttonsNot only that, the version with the Orange strap is said to be specially engineered with oil resistance, reduced weight, and improved breathability. It is also available in White and Black colorways.Amazing comfort, breathabilitySo far, the Orange strap version I am currently using is the most comfortable and breathable watch strap that I have ever tested. It is skin-friendly, washable, and sometimes I even forget that I am wearing it.The body also nice luxury crown design, a metal button, and bezel oiling. It is generally slim and lightweight as well. I will never do this, but those who need it may also enjoy its 40-meter freediving certification. On the health side, HUAWEI adds blood glucose risk assessment (Diabetic Risk Study, promising more accurate long-term monitoring) and pulse wave arrhythmia analysis. It also has obstructive sleep apnea monitoring and an upgraded sleep suite with Nap Recap.HUAWEI also highlights that it has an AI workout analysis engine, which covers nearly a hundred sports and tailors insights based on your health data and training plans. It even has app support for pickleball players.Other smart features include voice notes and screen-off payments support, like for GCash. Yes, you could also use this to control music and even answer calls. It runs on HarmonyOS 6.1. Quick thoughtsI am genuinely enjoying my first week with this watch. The build is undoubtedly engineered for durability, the comfort level is top-notch, and the design is Apple Watch-inspired but slimmer and lighter with smaller bezels for a more immersive viewing experience. I've been trying it to monitor and help manage my sleep, stress level, and quick outdoor runs, and it delivers. The mini workouts are also fun to reduce stiffness after hours of sitting, the GPS is very accurate, and the battery is solid for a watch with a TON of features.Overall, I am interested in testing its non-invasive blood glucose risk assessment (diabetes risk study), NFC GCash support, and its other sports modes and apps for racket sports like pickleball, among others.Watch out for our full review.
