Global HONOR Magic V6 First Look – Ultra-slim design, promises extreme durability
On schedule, HONOR today launched the Magic V6, the company's latest foldable smartphone, at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.Meet HONOR Magic V6Coming from the Magic V3 and Magic V5, phones that elevated the foldable smartphone market with their ultra-slim profiles, the new HONOR Magic V6 is designed to elevate the experience further by making the phone even tougher.Due to the US/Israel vs Iran conflict, our flight to Barcelona was diverted to Karachi, Pakistan, for safety. So, we weren't able to witness the launch in person.Luckily, we have the unit with us.Let's check it out.What makes the HONOR Magic V6 durable?Better than ever hinge designAccording to the company, the new HONOR Magic V6 has a mechanism that can survive the "Zipline challenge," where it can hold the weight of a person crossing the lake.The most durable foldable phone yet?This uses a 2800MPa HONOR Super Steel hinge, which HONOR claims to be the "strongest special steel ever introduced in the commercial sector."Ports and openings are protected from dust and waterMoreover, this is the first and only foldable smartphone with both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. Meaning, it can be submerged in 1.5 meters of freshwater for about 30 minutes and survive even hot water jets.The company also shared that the inner screen of this device uses a "robust UTG Glass" with "ultra-high" impact resistance. This is also said to have "highest anti-wear" tech to probably help in minimizing the crease and a specialized low reflectivity coating for the "lowest 1.5% reflection rate" to maintain clarity in different situations.Ultra-thin profileWhat even made this more impressive is the thickness of the phone. The thinnest part of this foldable phone is just 8.5mm, slimmer than all foldable smartphones out in the market today. The back cover design is also fingerprint smudge-resistant.The result is a nice and comfortable grip. It generally feels like you are holding a traditional smartphone. They also managed to keep the phone lightweight enough for one-handed use.Ultra-thin profileThe design is also elegant-looking. It is well-machined with chamfered edges, the paid jobs in White or Gold both scream luxury, and the camera island is reminiscent of Audemars Piguet's signature octagon body. The Gold variant even has nice micropatterns.The inner screenThe inner folding screen also almost fixed the bezel issue. In fact, due to the very good display quality of this phone, the crease is not visible, unless you pixel peep. This is the closest to a creaseless display so far.So far, my only minor comment is that the thickness of the camera hump will cause the phone to wiggle when placed on a flat surface.Otherwise, despite that super-slim profile, this has near-zero compromise specs.How? First, it is powered by the 5nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, arguably the fastest processor for mobile phones today. So, the experience, even with the prototype software I am using, is very smooth and fluid. This can probably run anything you throw at it.Second, you get flagship-level camera specs. Third, the battery capacity is bigger than ever at 6,660mAh, coming from 5,800mAh last year.The unit we have has 16GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage.We are still confirming the rest of the specs and features of the phone. We will update this post as soon as we can.Quick thoughtsThe back view and main screenThe new HONOR Magic V6 is showing some serious promise. At first glance, the experience is generally positive thanks to its promised durable design, impressive thin display, and nice overall finish.It also solved the main issue with foldables right now, the crease on the display. HONOR made it almost non-existent, barely noticeable, and far from distracting, resulting in one of the most immersive foldable viewing experiences yet.As expected, the specs are class-leading for a foldable. I am excited to test the real-life endurance of its massive battery despite having a thin and hand profile.We will be exploring the phone in the next few days and weeks and will get back with a full review.What do you guys think?
